1. Reporting:
The Director Human resources reports to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration)
Responsible for providing overall management and co-ordination of the ‘Human Resource function of the University.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Initiate, develop, implement and review Human Resource policies and practices in the University in line with the University Strategic Plan
  • Develop and monitor HFlD annual plan in line with the Human Resources Policies
  • Develop work targets tor the Human Resource Directorate in line with the Human Resource Policies, '
  • Provide secretariat services to other Committees of Council with a Human Resource component,
  • Mentor and coach Human Resources of the University
  • Link the Human Resource Directorate with other Units of the University and the public in line with the ‘University Mission and Vision’
  • Develop, ' implement and i monitor organizational development and change management systems and strategies in line with the University Strategic plan.
  • Introduce and implement competence based Human Resource Management systems
  • Design and implement performance Management and control systems
  • Any other duties assigned by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration)
Required qualiļ¬cations:
  • An Honors Bachelor's Degree from a recognized institution
  • A Master's Degree in Human Resource Management, Organizational and industrial Psychology, Management and Organizational Development or MBA (Human Resource option) or V
  • A Master's Degree in Social Sciences or Education Management/Planning and a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resources Management from a recognized institution
  • Computer literacy
Other Essential Requirements:
  • Excellent-analytical ability
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Very good tactical and strategic planning skills
  • Ability to organize, including time management skills and the ability to complete tasks efficiently
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills
  • Team building and conflict management skills Good understanding of Human Resource processes 
  • Leadership skills
Should have a minimum of ten (10) years working experience five (5) of which should be at Senior Management level in a reputable institution.
Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment shall be for a period of five (5) years with effect from the date of assumption of duty.
Age limit:
Applicants should preferably not be more than 55 years of age at the time of submission of the application.
The position of Director Human Resources is at the Makerere University M3 salary scale.
