Brief Company Profile
Our client is a non-political, non-profit making registered Agro based Association operating on the western boundaries of the Republic of Uganda. The objective of the Association is to promote, advance and protect the Association and the interests of participants engaged in the sponsorship, growing, buying, processing and exporting of its product. Additionally the Association promotes adherence to the laws governing the sector, application of approved farm inputs and training of sponsored farmers.

Purpose statement:
To strategically represent the vision and purpose of the association while promoting the association as the representative of the industry and clearly communicating its impact to the sector and economy of the country. The position will ensure that the governance and direction of the sector is aligned to the Memorandum and Articles of Association. Representing the Association to Government Forums, sector meetings and verification protocols will be key to the role. Additionally the position will ensure proper functioning of the Directors Committee with full participation at meetings and that all relevant matters are discussed and effective decisions are made and implemented.
Key Performance Areas
A. Ensures that the association management committee functions in line with set policies and procedures.
  • To promote the association in Uganda
  • To promote good governance in the sector
  • To advise the Ministry of Trade Industry & Cooperatives (MTIC) and other Stakeholders of recognized industry standards, like certiļ¬ed seed
  • To plan and run meetings in accordance to the rules governing the Association
  • To ensure that the association members are fully paid up and budget controls are implemented
  • To ensure that budget is communicated and agreed as funds are related to volume indications
  • To ensure accounts are audited and circulated timely.
  • To ensure matters are dealt with in an orderly, efficient manner.
  • To bring impartiality and objectivity to meetings and decision~ making.
  • To facilitate change and address conflict within the members.
  • To review governance performance and skills of the sector
  • To plan for recruitment and renewal of the Management Committee.
B. Manage the affairs of the association in the most effective way
  • To liaise with the Administrator, as appropriate, to keep an overview of the organisations affairs.
  • To co-ordinate with the Directors to ensure responsibilities for particular aspects of management are met and specialist expertise is employed as required.
  • To facilitate change and address conflict within the organisation, liaising with the Administrator to achieve this.
  • Promote the growth of the association in Uganda to be recognised as the “voice of the sector"
C. Provide support to member companies and ensure member discipline and supervision
  • To provide reports on a timely basis on members‘ performance at different stages on the crop Calendar.
  • To provide necessary and timely regulatory data from the members as required by the regulatory government bodies.
  • To align members to the Code of Conduct and report any unethical business to the specific
  • Government bodies following recommendation of the Directors and or legal advice
  • To sit on appointment and final appeal grievance panels, as appropriate with employees of The association.
D. Represent the association at public forums and liaise with key stakeholders / directors in matters concerning the association when required.

  • To communicate effectively the vision and purpose of the Association.
  • To advocate for and represent the Association at external meetings and events.
  • To be aware of current issues that might affect the Associations.
Academic Qualification
  • Professional qualification in Business, Administration, Agro based field or similar
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in relevant professional qualification
Job Related Experience Required
  • Related experience of a minimum of 7years in Senior Management position in Agro based industry
Qualities and Skills Required
  • Good knowledge of the Tobacco industry.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • impartiality, fairness and the ability to respect confidences.
  • Ability to ensure decisions are taken and followed-up.
  • Good time-keeping.
  • Tact and diplomacy.
  • Understanding of the roles/responsibilities of a management committee.
  • Experience of organisational and people management.
