The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) seeks to end pediatric HIV/AIDS through research, advocacy, and prevention and treatment programs. We are a global leader in the fight against pediatric HIV and Aids, working in 15 countries and at 7,000 sites around the world to prevent the transmission of HIV to children, and to help those already HIV infected. Today, because of the highly successful work of the Foundation and its partners over the last 25 years, pediatric AIDS has been virtually eliminated in the United States and new infections in children have declined by 58% worldwide. USAID Regional Health integration to Enhance Services in the South West Uganda project that aims to increase the availability, accessibility, and quality of integrated health services including HIV and TB prevention, care and treatment; maternal, neonatal, and child health services; family planning; nutrition assessment and counseling and support; malaria prevention and treatment; and other primary care services. Clinical Officer- mbarara
Job Summary:
The Clinical Officer will participate in clinical management of HIV, TB and related diseases in adults and children at the selected health facility within Mbarara district. S/he will provide technical support to the HIV clinic and general health facility staff to adhere to national standards and guidelines in the management HIV/AIDS and TB clients. Treat and ensure proper management of patients. Screen for and refer complicated cases to the supervisor in a timely way. Liaise with other cadre in the health facility in the delivery of quality health care in the facility especially in the promotion of identified task shitting approaches to care and treatment of patients. Participate in the implementation of PHC activities and other MNCH, FP, TB, HIV and OPD services. Adhere to the professional code of conduct and ethics. Participate in the collection of health data especially the updating of key primary data collection tools as pan of integrated services.
These include: MCH registers, OPD, TB register, HCT register and other client records. Participate in adopting the quality improvement approaches to improve the overall quality of HIV care and treatment, and enhance client outcomes. Conduct CMEs as part of mentoring junior staff. Participate in the provision of information/education to the public as nan nf health promotion
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must have a Diploma in clinical medicine and community health or its equivalent from a recognized institution. Should hold a current updated registration with the allied health professionals council .Have a valid annual practicing license with a minimum of two years hands on experience in clinical management of HIV, TB and related diseases in adults and children. Good knowledge of clinical issues and current literature related to prevention, care and treatment of HIV. TB and other related conditions in adults and children. Knowledge of quality improvement approaches and its application in HIV settings. The candidate will be expected to work within the work schedule of the Uganda Health system including special calls like evening, night or weekend duties.
