Job details:
The Republic of Uganda received financing from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) for the implementation of the Grid Rural Electrification Project, UGA 0099. Part of the proceeds of this loan will be applied to reinforce the Project Management Unit (PMU) through recruitment of Resident Engineers (Assistant Project Engineers). The Rural Electrification Agency, the executing agency for the project, now invites eligible individuals to express their interest in the above named positions as detailed below:
RESIDENT ENGINEER (Assistant Project Engineers): 06 vacancies.
Purpose: To represent the Agency at the project site. cnntirni the progress of construction of the Grid Rural Electrification Project and ensure quality while liaising with key stakeholders to ensure smooth project implementation.
Key responsibilities:
  • Oversee field contract Management, Administration and Coordination on behalf of the client.
  • Ensure the contractor’s activities are monitored and controlled in accordance with schedule, design specifications, and contractual requirements. Supervise construction work for quality compliance
  • Confirm supply and use of quality materials as per the contract
  • Ensure adherence to construction standards and good engineering practices during installation
  • Review and commend change orders and or construction, and audit poles delivered to site.
  • Maintain a daily work log
  • Oversee and coordinate the entire value chain including suppliers, subcontractors and key stakeholders to mitigate any risks.
  • Prepare test protocols, schedule and facilitate network pre - commissioning and commissioning.
  • Facilitate site meetings and hand over of completed network.
  • Conduct periodic defects liability inspections/audits; generate snag lists and follow-up correction of snags.
  • Report on progress and commitment and performance of the supervision consultants
  • Ensure participation of key stakeholders during implementation of the project including the local community and service providers.
  • Any other duties as specified by the Head of PMU.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
  • A minimum of Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • A diploma or certification in project management will be an added advantage.
  • Working experience of at least 3 years in power line construction.
  • A valid Class-B ERA installation permit will be a must.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience of power system commissioning and maintenance practices.
  • Computer literate and able to use MS Office applications for project management and report writing.
  • Must be below 40 years of age.
Terms and conditions of Service:

  • Six (6) months probationary period.
  • Two (2) years contract
  • An attractive remuneration package.
