MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Ensure that the company is adequately defended and to Provide legal support to all operational and business units of the company.
DUTIES AND RESPONSILITIES
  • Manage the litigation Portfolio of UPL and institute and defend legal suits for the company.
  • Prepare annual plans and budgets for the department and guide implementation of planned activities in line with UPL's Business plans and policies.
  • Provide support to the team through capacity building, coaching and mentoring and effectively manage performance of the team.
  • Contribute to the income generating and sustainability initiative of UPL.
  • Liaise with external company lawyers and follow up progress on case handling, research, advice and provide opinions With regards to cases filed for courts of Judicature.
  • Follow up proceedings before Courts, Adjudicators, Mediators, Arbitrators and tribunals and brief the company secretary.
  • Participate in negotiation of contracts and apply, register and defend company trademarks from any opposition.
  • Manage the Company's asset database by maintaining the assets database for all land titles and vehicle log hooks and ensure that the asset database is up to date.
  • Provide technical advice to various operational units and Committees e.g. Contract Committee,
  • Disciplinary Committee, etc. for effective decision making
  • Maintain the legal and policy framework of the company by compiling, draft, edit and review company rules, regulation, and policies.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelors of Law Degree
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice
  • Should be an enrolled advocate of the High Court
Working Experience
  • Eight (us) years relevant working experience; Five (O5) years at supervisory level,
