Gulu University is a Public University established by Statutory Instrument No. 16 of 2003. The University was set to serve as a launch pad for equitable development in Uganda providing knowledge and skills and stimulating innovations in education, technology, economic advancement and social development. The University is located in Gulu Municipality with campuses in Kitgum and Hoima Districts.
The Vision of the University is to be a leading academic institution for the promotion of rural transformation and industrialization for sustainable development. The Mission of the University is to expand access to higher education, provide quality professional training for delivery of appropriate social services and conduct research geared towards rural transformation and conservation of biodiversity.
To achieve its Vision and Mission the University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following positions:
FACULTY OF LAW
Position: Professor
Number of Vacancies: 1 (One)
Reports to: Head of Department
Job Summary:
in provide professional leadership in the development and implementation of the University academic programmes in his/her specialized discipline.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Reviews, develops and implements new methods of instructions to reflect changes in the curriculum.
  • Instructs and evaluates the performance of learners/students in the specific area of specialization.
  • Develops and presents Academic research proposals for funding.
  • Provides technical backup support to other academic staff in the area of specialization.
  • Serves as an external examiner to other universities both national and international.
  • Participates in the University curriculum review and development in his/her area ofspecialization.
  • Coordinates the development of Manuals and kits for the conduct, supervision and evaluation of practical assignments to students.
  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of post graduate students’ academic research.
  • Delivers public lectures in academic conferences, seminars and workshops. g
  • Actively engages with the community/industry to facilitate practical orientation of students.
  • Examines students which includes; setting, marking, grading and submission of results as per senate policy.
  • Serves on faculty/departmental committees and any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a Ugandan citizen who possesses the following:

  • Doctorate in Law (LLD) University/Institution;
  • Masters in Law (LLM) from a recognized University/Institution;
  • Postgraduate diploma in Legal Practice from a recognized institution;
  • Degree in Law (LLB) University/Institution ;
  • Minimum of 12 years University teaching experience, five of which served at the level of an Associate Professor in an internationally recognized University.
  • Must have supervised at least two graduate students to completion, one of whom should be at PhD level;
  • Should have evidence of continuous research including having published at least twenty one (21) articles in per reviewed journals, or ten book chapters or two books with ISBN Number;
  • Should have contributed to community service.
Other Essential Skills/Competencies:
  • Demonstrated skill in leadership, effective communication, collaboration and networking, problem identification and solving, undertaking, supervising and evaluating academic research s projects;
  • Excellent skills in research project writing, implementation and supervision;
  • Practical knowledge of current issues and trends, University curriculum reviews, development and implementation;
  • Must be industrious and self-driven;
  • Must be computer literate.
Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment shall be on contractual terms for a period of four (4) years, renewable based on satisfactory performance.
Remuneration:
The University offers an attractive package for the position at salary Scale M3, in addition to benefits including free medical facilities and other fringe benefits.
