Kyambogo University is a public university established in 2003 following the merger of the former institute oi Teacher Education Kyambogo (ITEK), Uganda Polytechnic Kyamhogo (UPK) and Uganda National institute .ior Special Education (UNISE). The University Campus is located on Kyamtlogo Hill in the capital city, Kampala. Kyambogo University is the second largest university In Uganda with more than 20,000 students. Kyamcogo University is a unique institution which has adopted an integrated approach to education, iocuslng on vocationaiising education at all levels. The University has embraced the fields oi science and technology, humanities, business management and entrepreneurship, education and teacher development as well as special needs education. To achieve its mission and strategic goals, Kyamcogo University seeks to fill the position of Academic Registrar.
ACADEMIC REGISTRAR’S DEPARTMENT
Post: Academic Registrar
Salary Scale: M3
Responsible to: Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs)
Responsible for: Deputy academic Registrars
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To support the first Deputy Vice Chancellor in the administration and organization of Undergraduate studies, Post graduate studies, examinations, research and Publications.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To plan and coordinate curriculum development for all prorammes and courses taught at the university.
  • To direct the implementation of regulations governing students admission requirements for all programmes, ensuring that all students admitted to the various courses in the University have the required qualifications.
  • To coordinate the implementation of all academic policies and procedure approved by Council,
  • To direct the state custody of all documents and data relating to admissions, examinations and academic results.
  • To oversee the preparation of timetables for teaching and examinations in different Faculties.
  • To coordinate timely preparation and setting of examinations.
  • To direct /compliance with approved schedules for setting and marking examinations and release of result.
  •  To coordinate the marking of examinations and making arrangements to source for external examiners.
  • To oversee mechanism to ensure that there is no examination leakages of malpractices.
  • To coordinate and ensure that the senate approves all results before they are released.
  •  To maintain a data bank of all results for the University students
  • To organize and coordinate the University Alumni.
  •  To provide Secretariat services to the Senate.
  • To organize and coordinate graduation ceremonies graduate, undergraduate and certificate students.
  •  To appraise performance of staff in the department.
  •  To monitor and advise the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) in cases of academic impropriety that may include fraud, dishonorable or scandalous cases for action by the Senate.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
  • Must possess a Master’s degree in Education or Education Planning and Management, Human Resource Management, Public Administration, Management Studies or Organizational Psychology from a recognized institution.
  • Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Education, Arts with Education or Science with Education from a recognized Institution or first degree with Post Graduate Diploma in Education.
  • A PhD in a relevant field in education is an added advantage
  • Should he 40 — 55 years of age at the time of application
  • At least ten (10) years ‘working experience, five of which should be at Senior Management Level in University Administration.
  • Unquestionable integrity and good managerial skills.
  • Strong leadership and Communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
