University Research Co., LLC (URC), a US-based public health organization working in Uganda since 2005, is implementing the USAID’s Regional Health Integration to Enhance Services in East-Central Uganda project (USAlD‘s RHITES-EC). a five-year USAID funded Activity that supports the 11 districts of Bugiri, Busia, Buyende, lganga, Jinja, Kaliro, Kamuli, Luuka, Mayuge, Namayingo, Namutumba to implement interventions for integrated health services (Malaria, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health and survival; Family Planning; Nutrition; HIV prevention, care and treatment; Tuberculosis; and Laboratory services) and health systems strengthening.

Internship Opportunities:
USAID’s RHITES-EC program in the effort to address skills building and widespread youth unemployment is offering internship opportunities for fresh University level graduates who originate from the project supported districts (Jinja, lganga, Mayuge, Kamuli, Buyende, Kaliro, Bugiri, Busia, Namayingo, Namutumba and Luuka), and are interested in pursuing career in the sector of health/nutrition/counseling; monitoring and evaluation; advertising; marketing; sales; civil engineering; Finance and accounting; ICT; or business-related fields. USAID’s RHITES-EC will help link and attach up to seventy five (75) fresh graduates to district health facilities, CBOs and private companies/businesses to attain hands-on work experience for a period not exceeding 6 months. Through these attachments, the internship program will support district and facility counterparts in data analysis, visualization and utilization. URC is, thus, seeking qualified candidates to fill the following position;

Internship Fields:
Health; nutrition; counseling; monitoring and evaluation; advertising; marketing; sales; civil engineering; finance and accounting; ICE human resources management; or other business related fields.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Bachelor‘s degree in any field specified above.
  • Strong in training and facilitation skills
  • Good computer skills (MS office-Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
  • Detail Oriented
  •  Creative, analytical, with good problem-solving skills
  •  Ability to work under pressure and meet targets and deadlines.

Duty Station
interns will be placed at host work places in the following districts: Jinja, lganga, Mayuge, Kamuli, Buyende, Kaliro, Bugiri, Busia, Namayingo, Namutumba and Luuka districts.
Summary of Internship Tasks:
interns will assist host workplace teams on various projects and tasks. Specific job descriptions will be designed to ensure that the intern gains experience and skills in the field relevant to their undergraduate training and/or career goals. The interns will be placed only in their districts of origin, following approval by respective district authorities.
