HEALTH SYSTEM STRENGTHENING OFFICER
Position title: Health System Strengthening Officer
Reports to: Nutrition Program Manager
Duty Station: Nakapiripirit and Napak
Job Purpose: Provide overall leadership for health system strengthening project activities.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
  • Overall technical support to health systems strengthening using the World Health Organization's (WHO's) ‘Reaching Every District’ (RED) approach to improve coverage of nutrition and health services and address factors hindering access.
  • Close collaboration within Nuyok Nutrition Team Nutritionists, Nutrition Supervisors and WASH Officer.
  • Responsible for activities aimed at improving health management information systems.
  • Develop strategy and support the District Health Management; Teams to cover hard to reach areas.
  • Support the District Health Management Teams to increase demand for health services and to improve the quality of services
  • Guide and support the education, training, mentoring and supervision of Community Health Workers.
  • Monitor and support health workers provide nutrition education to pregnant and lactating women and caregivers of children under two years of age, at the community level.
  • Coordinate directly or through the District Health Management team with the Village Health Teams, Mother Care Groups (MCG) and Lead Mothers.
  • Participate in development of work plans and provide reports as per reporting schedules.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress of Health System Strengthening activities.
  • Keenly analyze project implementation strategies to identify constraints to program success and provide timely recommendations.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Community Health or Nutrition, or public administration with a focus on health sector and 2 years of experience in health systems strengthening or related.
  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine with 4 years’ experience in health service sector
  • Proven experience in working with health workers. ‘
  • Experience working with marginalized populations.
  • Experience working with Government Health Structures.
  • Experience in improving access to health services in remote areas and/or disadvantaged communities Experience with WHO’s RED approach would be an advantage.
  • Excellent Computer skills and experience with information management systems Good organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Keen attention to detail, ability to follow procedures and meet deadlines and work cooperatively with team members.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written in order to interact with diverse populations.
  • Willingness to work in any Nuyok programme duty stations
  • Proven skills in riding a motorcycle and possession of a valid riding license.
  • Knowledge of local language (Nga`Karimojong) is an added advantage.
