BACKGROUND
John Snow, inc. (JSI), a leader in the field of international public health, is currently recruiting positions for the Regional Health integration to Enhance Services-North, Lango (RHITES-N, Lango) Project, funded by the USAID. The Regional Health Integration to Enhance Services-North, Lango project will improve the use of integrated health services in Northern Uganda‘s Lango region and strengthen the health system to sustain gains made by earlier projects. The Regional Health integration to Enhance Services-North, Lango project will contribute to improving key population-based national health indicators; build the capacity of the Ugandan government to carry out a sustainable and locally-driven response to the HIV epidemic, while also improving TB, malaria, nutrition, MNCH+A,FP and WASH outcomes. JSI will work with Ugandan stakeholders to design and implement health system strengthening strategies to scale up high-impact, evidence-based interventions at the national, sub-regional, district, and community levels. Interventions will include VMMC, virtual elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, antiretroviral therapy, and condom education and distribution, JSI will focus where the greatest impact can be realized, with a priority on hard-to-reach and high-HIV-prevalence locations.
The Regional Health integration to Enhance Services-North, Lango project is a live-year contract. The JSI team includes Amref Health Africa, Africa CUAMM, Another Option, and The Medical Concierge Group.
Position Description
NUTRITION ADVISOR
JOB SUMMARY:
The Nutrition Advisor will be part of a dynamic, innovative and multi-disciplinary team of professionals working to improve the quality, utilization and sustainability of integrated liealtir services. The Nutrition Advisor will provide technical leadership and assistance in developing, facilitating, and monitoring strategies, interventions and services in nutrition (improved diete specially during and following pregnancy, early and exclusive breastfeeding for the newborn and adequate micro nutrient intake including iron/toiate and Vitamin A supplementation, good weaning practices, anaemia prevention, community-directed growth promotion activities, nutrition, care oi sick children, and comm unity engagement. The Nutrition advisor will be responsible for communicating nutrition related activities of the HHITES, NLango project, and will provide technical inputs for donors, and local stakeholders such as the Ministry of Health, TING, etc.The Nutrition Advisor reports to the Deputy Chief of Party/Director Health Service Delivery.
Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assure strategic and technical soundness of RHITES, N Lango nutrition and growth promotion interventions;
  • Provide technical leadership and work closely with other program staff and key stakeholders to develop the nutrition and growth promotion components oi RHITES, N Langostrategic frameworks, annual work plans and detailed implementation plans;
  • Promote collaboration to improve health and nutrition integration s as well as broad action to foster woman and newborn child well-being;
  • Supply technical guidance and assistance to the district on political and administrative leadership, and to other program partners in improving the quality
  • Write regular technical reports, as required, and contribute to the RHITES. N Lango work plans and annual reports
Qualifications:

  • Master's in Public Health or related field, or a medical degree,nil with formal postgraduate training in nutrition;
  • At least 7 years of professional experience developing,managing and evaluating strategies and services for community nutrition and programs that include training and development communication.
  • Excellent understanding of the importance of family/house hold dynamics in maternal and childhood nutrition, and the role of the community In nutrition and growth promotion;
