About the Company
The headquarters of IDRC are located at 2C Nakasero Hill Road and houses Finance and Administration, Regulatory department, Data Center and the Research Offices. The Molecular laboratory, located at Mulago Hospital Complex serves all of our clinical projects in Uganda by providing confirmatory expert malaria microscopy for studies in Kampala and at our field sites and performing related molecular studies.
JOB DETAILS:
The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit research organization. IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to over 150 publications and have impacted on the management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC currently manages over 41 grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was established in May 2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University College of health sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the Uganda Ministry of health.

Job Summary: The Counsellor for the IBIS Health study will be based in South Western Uganda. The IBIS Health study will evaluate the comparative effectiveness and sustainability of innovative incentive strategies, informed directly by theories from behavioural economics and decision psychology, to promote repeat HIV testing among high risk populations, and HIV treatment among HIV-infected adults in rural Uganda.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Obtaining informed written and verbal consent from potential study participants
  • Verbally administering questionnaires to participants and recording responses using computer tablets, and providing follow up tracking for participants lost to follow up
  • Offering Pre and Post- test counseling to study participants.
  • Offering result cards to participants and explaining the results.
  • Making sure that participants' cash deposits are well documented and safely kept in safe boxes.
  • Assist in management of supplies and safe custody of organizational equipment in your custody.
  • Assist and distribute incentives to study participants.
Key Result Areas
  • Pre and post-test counselling of study participants
  • Fully completed participants' consents.
  • Participants correctly screened, enrolled and followed up.
  • Accurate and timely completion of study logs.
  • Proper documentation of participants' financial incentives.
  • Maintaining high levels of confidentiality.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The applicant for the Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) Counsellor job must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Counselling, Health Sciences or Humanities or related fields from a recognized institution.
  • Must have prior working experience in a research setting.
  • Must have Evidence of GCP/HSP training
  • Additional training in HIV and related infectious diseases is an added advantage.
  • Integrity and ability to develop a good working relationship with communities.
  • Must have knowledge of research ethics.
  • Excellent knowledge (both oral and written) of Runyankole/ Rukiga languages.
