JOB DETAILS:
Established in 1988, the MRC/ UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit is an internationally recognized Center of excellence for research on HIV infection and related diseases, contributing knowledge on the evolving epidemic, the evaluation of innovative health care options, treatment and prevention, and the development of health policy and practice in Africa and worldwide. The Unit‘s head offices are located at the Uganda Virus Research institute- Entebbe Campus, and the main research activities in Masaka, Kalungu, Kampala and Wakiso districts, including the peri-urban areas of Entebbe.
The Unit is now seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to fill the following position:
Role Position: Buildings Services Technician
Reporting to: Senior Maintenance Engineer

The job holder will be responsible for conducting maintenance and replacement of faulty parts for all plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, across the unit field stations and making sure works that need attention are identified and attended to in a timely manner for the smooth running on the Unit Operations. They will be expected to travel regularly between the field stations to maintain the condition of all buildings.
Some Key Responsibilities: 1. Maintain an inventory of building service installations of the unit and checks regular maintenance schedules. 2. Carry out scheduled building inspections and monitoring the organisational facilities are in good working conditions Prepare and present inspection reports on any malfunctions on a regular basis. 3. Ensure all building service and fittings are functional and in good order. 4. Ensures plumbing fittings across the Unit are functional and also any repairs are attended to in a timely manner. 5. Specification:
  • At least a craftsmanship certificate from a recognised Technical institution.
  • Vocational Training, apprenticeship or previous experience as a charge hand is an added advantage.
  • At least 10 years‘ experience in a busy manufacturing, institution, or hospital setting.
