JOB DETAILS:
Ministry of Water and Environment with the support from Adaptation Fund is executing a project on Enhancing Resilience of Communities to Climate Change through Catchment Based Integrated Management of Water and Related Resources in Uganda (EURECCCA).
The project started in May 2017 and will be completed by April 2021. It is implemented in 3 catchments of Aswa in Upper Nile Water Management Zone (WMZ), Awoja in Kyoga Water Management Zone and Maziba in Victoria Water Management Zone.

The Ministry of Water and Environment as an execution Entity therefore wishes to recruit qualified persons to provide technical support to the project as specified below.

Job Title: 3 Social Development Officers
Reports to: Team Leader, Water Management Zone (WMZ)
Duty Station: (Lira, Mbale & Kabale /Mbarara)
Terms of Appointment: One (1) year Contract (Renewable subject to satisfactory performance)

Duties and responsibilities:
  • Carry out advocacy, sensitisations, and community mobilisation aspects
  • Ensure that consultants and contractors implementing various project activities give adequate consideration to community development aspects.
  • Advise and make appropriate recommendations to the project management team on identified project implementation strategies and project targets and operational problems regarding community mobilisation aspects.
  • Coordinate the preparation for community mobilization meetings.
  • Prepare and carrying out sensitization programmes to project stakeholders on issues related to catchment based water resources management.
  • Coordinate mobilisation of communities with a view of ensuring their involvement
    in and ownership of catchment based integrated water resources management interventions in the project area.
  • Ensure the integration of gender issues during the project implementation and management.
  • Ensure that Environment and social safe guards issues are addressed during implementation of project activities and prepare environment and social safe guard reports
  • Collaborate with DLGs, NGOs and other actors to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in planning, development and management of water and related resources during the project implementation.
  • Participate in preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual project work plans, budgets and progress reports.
  • Any other duty as may be assigned by the supervisors.
Qualification and Experience:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Social Work and Social Administration, Development Studies
  • A post graduate degree in Social Sciences or any related field is an added advantage.
  • Should have at least (6) years’ experience in community mobilisation.
  • Experience in water and Environment sector within the framework of Integrated water resources management is added advantage
  • He/ She should have will also have technical skills in social analysis and data collection methodologies
  • Knowledge of at least one local language spoken in the project area is a must
