We are looking for suitable candidates who will fill a number of positions within the Maternal and Newborn (MaNe)-Kampala Slum Project to be implemented in partnership with Kampala Capital City Authority and Makerere University School of Public Health.
The objectives of this project are to:
  • Empower the urban poor pregnant mother to be able to recognize illness and make timely decision to seek care for herself and her baby;
  • Ensure that the quality care she needs is accessible by harnessing and collaborating with the widely available private providers and
  • Improve referral linkage between primary level facilities and the referral hospitals so that poor mothers and newborns can get timely and effective emergency care.

Job summary:
The Quality Improvement Coordinator will implement, support and maintain relationships with the selected service providers and facilities for the MaNe Project. He/She will execute and recommend strategies to improve and ensure service and data quality, professionalism, client safety, and regulatory compliance for all services provided under this project in line with the approved donor requirements to meet project objectives. He/she will ensure that Service quality standards developed and rolled out are adhered to by service providers.


Your contribution:
Roles and responsibilities:

  • Build capacity of mentor midwives in project facilities / quality assurance officers in RMNCAH-EMTCT/EID best practices as per identified training needs through didactic trainings, onsite mentorships & support supervision in the accredited private facilities.
  • Develop quality improvement protocols and ensure adherence by the project staff and providers in the project facilities.
  • Rollout Monitoring Evaluation & Learning protocols, tools and ensure adherence at health facility level during implementation of the MaNe project.
  • Conduct regular coaching/support supervision/mentorship visits to mentor midwives in project facilities and quality assurance officers to ensure adherence to standards and protocols for the MaNe Kampala slum project.
  • Conduct service quality audits and ensure implementation of recommendations. What would get us excited?
The basics
  • Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, with some orientation or training in Obstetrics and gynecology.
  • Possession of a Post graduate diploma in project planning and management is an added advantage
  • 3 years’ experience as a trainer/mentor of trainees in components of safe motherhood areas specifically Emergency Obstetric care, comprehensive FP, comprehensive HIV care including eMTCT with a reputable NGO or public facility
  • Previous financial management and budget experience is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with various partners including MoH, Local governments, CBOs and other NGOs.
  • Previous proposal writing experience.
  • Previous experience with a donor funded Non-governmental organization is preferred.
Key personal competences
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor technical staff and medical providers;
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills (excellent communication and presentation skills);
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team as well as individually;
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision;
  • Good management skills.
