CARE International has been active in Uganda since 1969 and working in the country continuously since 1979, implementing a diverse portfolio of programs and projects ranging from emergency services to economic development and civil society building. Our current programming targets Women, Girls and youth as well as vulnerable groups such as the extreme poor, internally displaced people, children to provide assistance and opportunities for empowerment and sustainable development through addressing the underlying causes of poverty grounded on careful and thorough analysis of power relations between different groups in society and the local context in which they live and work. CARE International seeks to recruit highly motivated and qualified individuals to fill the following position;
Position: Country Director
Location: Kampala
job Summary
The Country Director (CD) is responsible for fulfilling the Cl approved "Performance Standards of Country Offices". S/he oversees the development, funding and implementation of the Country Office (CO) program portfolio. The CD is responsible for adequate emergency preparedness and manages emergency programming and operations. The person in this role establishes and sustains productive relationships and political influence with government officials, donors and strategic partners. S/he leads the C0's fundraising strategy and ensures the CO's financial viability. As an organizational citizen, the (D contributes to Cl's global strategy, shares knowledge and supports the generation of evidence to inform CARE's global programming. The CD is also accountable for competent operational and risk management, including the proper management, well-being and safety of CARE staff and the proper stewardship of CARE‘s resources. The CD models and ensures systematic practice of CARE core values - transformation, Integrity, Diversity, Equality and excellence - S/he also promotes Gender Equality and Diversity among CO staff and in programming.
The CD will model new ways of working and driving the teams toward the CARE 2020 vision, fostering innovation, holistic planning and programming and helping to build effective teams, coalitions and networks. S/he encourages on-going staff development to motivate and strengthen the teams’ resilience in the face of change. Within Uganda, the CD is responsible for progress in the business plan. Currently, CARE Uganda is balancing emergency response with development program. Our current programming targets Women, Girls and youth as well as vulnerable groups such as the extreme poor, internally displaced people, children to provide assistance and opportunities for empowerment and sustainable development through addressing the underlying causes of poverty grounded on careful and thorough analysis of power relations between different groups in society and the local context in which they live and work. The CD continues to build on staff development, program development and strengthening partnerships and advocacy.
