BACKGROUND
The USAID funded Regional Health Integration to Enhance Services-North, Lango Project (RHITES-N, Lango) is operating in the nine districts of the Lango sub-region of northern Uganda (Alebtong, Amolatar, Apac, Dokolo, Kole, Kwania, Lira, Otuke and Oyam). RHITES-N, Lango will increase the effective use of sustainable health services in the region. The Project is led by John Snow, Inc. in partnership with African Medical and Research Foundation (Amref), Doctors with Africa (CUAMM), The Medical Concierge Group (TMCG) and another Option. The project will contribute to measurable improvements in key Ugandan national health indicators (HIV; tuberculosis [TB]; malaria, maternal, newborn, and child health [MNCH]; family planning [FP]; water, sanitation, and hygiene [WASH]; and nutrition).
The USAID RHITES-N, Lango Project, in partnership with Ministry of Health, Apac District Local Government wishes to recruit the under listed staff to support Apac Hospital to run ART clinic. The successful applicants will be recruited on contract basis and will be remunerated according to the Government of Uganda pay scales.
JOB TITLE: LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (2)
SALARY SCALE: U5
REPORTS TO: Senior Laboratory Technologist
RESPONSIBLE FOR: Laboratory Assistant
LOCATION: Apac Hospital
JOB PURPOSE:
To conduct generalized laboratory investigations for disease diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control..

Job Responsibilities:
• Liaising with Ward management in the preparation of patients for Laboratory test.
• Participating in collection, handling and transportation of specimens to the
• Laboratory.
• Analyzing and interpreting laboratory test results and submitting reports.
• Requisitioning and accounting for laboratory materials and sundries.
• Maintaining an inventory of the laboratory equipment and ensuring their functionality
• Enforcing safety and quality control measures in the laboratory.
• Participating in primary health care and research activities.
• Compiling, analyzing and preparing performance reports for submission to relevant authorities.
• Laboratory test results and treatment harmonized.
• • Laboratory investigations done and results interpreted.
• • Clinical staff advised on proper collection, handling and transportation of specimen.
• Quality assurance measures in the Laboratory enforced.
• Laboratory data compiled, analyzed and performance reports prepared and submitted.
• Laboratory materials and sundries requisitioned and accounted for.
• Primary health care and research activities supported.

Job Qualifications:
• Must have a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Techniques or its equivalent from a recognized Institution.
• Must be registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
• Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the same field
