The Kingdom of Buganda under the Ministry of Sports is committed to promotion, development, commercialization and the brand growth of its sports properties as well as sustaining them in the Kingdom.
The Kingdom is therefore looking for suitable candidates for the following positions: Position: Principal Sports Officer (PSO)
Monthly Salary: Attractive and Negotiable
Ministry: Ministry of Youths, Sports and Recreation
Duty Station: Bulange – Mengo
Reports to: Minister of Sports and Recreation
Supervises: Sports Marketing Officer
Position Summary:
The Principal Sports Officer is the highest-ranking position in the Sports Ministry, with the primary responsibility of the Ministry performance, commercialization of the sports sector, revenue generation, making major corporate decisions, managing the overall operations and resources of the Ministry, and acting as the main point of communication between the Minister and corporate organizations.
The Officer sets the Ministry overall direction, vision and strategy by identifying key markets and establishing opportunities to drive and widen the sports portfolio in the Ministry, marketing sports in the Buganda Kingdom, product development, growing the brand and ensure the creation and construction of sports facilities in the Kingdom.
H(Sh)e is the Chief Accounting Officer of the sports docket in the Ministry and reports to the Minister of Youths, Sports and Recreation. .

Essential/primary responsibilities:
• The PSO is responsible for creating, communicating and implementing the Kingdom Sports vision, mission and overall direction.
• He is accountable for leading, guiding, directing, and managing Sports Human Resource, ensuring that the Kingdom and Sports strategic plans filter down through the organization for full implementation.
• Development and execution of Sports sales plan covering product, price, place, promotion, processes (customer facing), people and physical evidence.
• Development of the annual work plan including revenue and margin targets.
• Preparation of sales and marketing Apex budget
• Manage, supervise, coach and motivate the sales and marketing team to ensure that they achieve the quarterly and annual sales turnover targets.
• Responsible for successful introduction of new sports products and developing the existing on the local and international market.
• Develop and implement systems to monitor sales performance by product, sponsors and marketing officer.
• Initiate and supervise market research to inform marketing strategy and decision making.
• Develop and implement sports marketing promotional activities and events to support the sales and marketing strategy.
• Oversee the financial management of the sports related resources by ensuring adequacy and accountability.
• Overseeing day to day administration, organization, operations and management of the Sports department in the Ministry.
• Providing technical support to the Ministry to fulfil its governance function, by ensuring that Ministerial resolutions by various committees are implemented with due diligence in respect to the Minister’s guidance.

Job Skills
• Excellent track record in turning around organization image and performance into a competitive and vibrant institution able to command the respect of stakeholders through innovation, change management and systems building.
• Proven experience in sports planning, management, financial and human resource management, public relations and resource mobilization is a must.
• Ability to communicate using Luganda language; experience in sports management, planning, marketing and promotion; good understanding of the Kingdom and its culture willable an added advantage.
• Ability to instill a culture of change management within the Organization where change and visionary thinking is encouraged.

Education, Knowledge and Skills required:
• Capability of multi-tasking, rapid decision making, brand development, takes initiative, self-driven, energetic with high degree of emotional intelligence.
• S/he should have a high level of personal integrity, strong commitment to teamwork and accountability, thrive in evolving and challenging environments, and make effective written and verbal communication.
• A Master’s degree or its equivalent in either Sports Science, Management, Business Administration, Tourism, Marketing or Law. Any other relevant post graduate qualification is an added advantage.
• An in-depth understanding of the sports industry and marketing and should be able to generate passion, energy and enthusiasm amongst all stakeholders.
• At least 5 yrs. of experience in sports related leadership and organization management at the top level managing diverse teams and portfolios.
