The Natural Resources Stewardship Programme (NatuReS), funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and UK Aid, is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ). Natures promotes multi-stakeholder collective action for more sustainable management of the environment, especially in relation to water, NatuReS aims to strengthen and support local public-private-civil society partnerships to address shared water-related natural resources threats, while capitalising on synergies opportunities and improving stewardship at scale. Put simply, stewardship is about taking care of a common resource that is important to everyone. Natures currently operates in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zambia, Uganda and South Africa. NatuReS is a follow up program to the International Water Stewardship Program (IWSP).
Uganda has seen an average of 7% annual economic growth over the last two decades. This has resulted in a reduction in headcount poverty, from 56% in 19921993 to 20% in 2012-2013; around half a million jobs created annually; and improved access to basic services (Achieving Uganda's Development Ambition, MOFPED 2016). The Kampala Pollution Taskforce (PTF) is one of Natures Uganda flagship partnerships. It consists of the Ministry Water and Environment through the Directorate of Water Resources Management Department, Kampala Capital City Authority, National Water and Sewerage Company, National Environment Management Authority, and the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA).
