In 2018, Makerere University College of Health Sciences through the School Public Health (MakSPH) with funding from The AIDS Support Organization (TASO) conducted a study entitled, “Formative Assessment of HIV, Gender-Based Violence and Sexual and Reproductive Health Status among Adolescent Girls and Young Women in Uganda”, which was referred to as the "AGYW Study”. This study was conducted in 20 districts of Uganda to generate data necessary to inform the design of interventions aimed at reducing AGYW's vulnerability to HIV infection, teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence. MakSPH intends to conduct a repeat survey of adolescent girls and young women's HIV, sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence status in 14 districts of Uganda. As part of this survey, we will conduct a mid-term evaluation of the Global Fund-supported AGYW Project that is being implemented by TASO and its sub-grantees so as to collect data on the: 1) current status of implementation of the AGYW Project, 2) fidelity to the implementation plans, 3) challenges experienced so far and 4) mid-course corrections necessary to achieve the project goal in 2021.
Data collection will take place in 14 selected districts divided into ten data collections teams (i.e. Team 1: Buvuma, Buikwe; Team 2: Mubende, Mityana; Team 3: Kayunga, Nakasongola; Team 4: Mayuge, Jinja; Team 5: Tororo, Busia; Team 6: Mbale, Bukwo; and Team 7: Hoima, Buliisa). To strengthen its current staffing position, MakSPH would like to fill the following vacant positions on the study.
Reports to: Co-Principal Investigator .

Key duties and responsibilities
• Draw blood for HIV and syphilis testing
• Run rapid HIV and syphilis tests
• Participate in interpreting HIV and syphilis results
• Prepare samples for confirmatory HIV testing and ensure they are safely packed for delivery to the Central Public Health Laboratory

Job Skills:
• Knowledgeable about common local languages spoken in that region
• Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to follow study specific procedures and guidelines reliably
• Ability to spend an extended period in rural areas and away from home
• Willing to reside in the region for the entire study period
• Willing to make regular trips to health facilities in the survey districts
• Ability to work under stringent deadlines and independently with minimal supervision
• Participate in field data collection as case may be
• Possession of a Certificate in Good Laboratory Practices is an added advantage.
• Prior experience with collection of blood samples in a community survey is an added advantage
• Excellent communication skills with patients and ability to explain sample collection procedures to clients
• Prior experience with working with adolescents is an added advantage
• Proficiency in both spoken and written English

Qualifications and desirable qualities
• Suitable applicants MUST possess a degree of Bachelor of Biomedical Laboratory Technology.
• Individuals that possess a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field with more than three years' experience in HIV and/or Syphilis testing may also be considered for this position
• Must have at least 2 years' experience in conducting HIV and syphilis testing at static clinics and outreach sites and conversant with rapid HIV and syphilis testing methodologies
